UAPA against CPM workers: CM Pinarayi seeks explanation from DGP

Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with charging Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against two CPM workers in Kozhikode, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan sought explanation from State Police Chief DGP Loknath Behera.

The chief minister reportedly called the state police chief over phone to seek explanation.

CPM is a party that strongly opposes UAPA. The party had protested when UAPA was charged against CPM leader P Jayarajan. They had also alleged that UAPA is a black act.

The police had arrested the other day CPM branch committee members Alain Shuhaib and Thaha Faizal from Pantheeramkavu in Kozhikode for distributing pro-Maoist brochures. They also seized many such brochures from the men.
