Kerala govt to legalise student unions at schools and colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala has decided to legalise the functioning of student unions at schools and colleges in the state. The cabinet has given the go-ahead to formulate a legislation in this regard.

The draft bill has been approved.

The new law comes after the University College stabbing incident which had blown up into a full blown controversy last July.

Members of Left affiliated Students’s Federation of India (SFI) had allegedly stabbed a third-year student in University College after a minor altercation among students over singing songs in the college canteen blew up into a college fight.
