Manchester: New Zealand added 38 runs on the reserved day to bring their total to 239/8 setting India a modest target of 240 in 50 overs.
The Kiwis had resumed their innings at 211/5 at 46.2 overs. Ross Taylor scored 74 from 90 balls before being run out by a direct throw from Jadeja. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar claimed two wickets on the day taking his tally to 3/43 out of 10 overs.
New Zealand were under tremendous pressure from Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar from the beginning. It took the Kiwis 17 deliveries to open their account.
All-rounder Hardik Pandhya and spinners Chahal and Jadeja offered good support preventing the New Zealand batsmen from scoring.
Openers Martin Guptill (1 of 14 balls) disappointed while Henry Nicholls (28 of 51 balls) could not do much. and Skipper Kane Williamson scored 67 of 95 balls to solidify the Kiwi innings before being caught by Ravindra Jadeja in a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery.
It was the 3rd wicket partnership between Williamson and Taylor that helped the Kiwis recover from the Indian onslaught.
