Kerala struck by interstate bus strike

Thiruvananthapuram: Interstate bus services are on an indefinite strike from Monday to protest against Operation Night Riders by the Motor Vehicles Department to seize buses operating without permit.

The Interstate Bus Owners Asociation has called for the strike with the MVD going for strict action following complaints from passengers.

The MVD plans to seize buses which continuously violate traffic rules and refuse to pay up the penalty.  There are as many as 100 services which operate between Kerala and Karnataka. Passengers want strict action to be taken in connection with the indefinite strike.

The Association said that MVD must stop imposing fine unnecessary as it was destroying the sector.

It is learnt that more services will ply between the states to get over the strike.

Meanwhile, the Kerala RTC or the Karnataka RTC have not reached an understanding to operate more services.
