The holy month of Ramadan in Kerala begins today

Thiruvananthapuram: Muslim clerics announced Sunday that the holy month of Ramadan will begin in Kerala on Monday (today).

The month of Ramadan, when Muslims keep a dawn-to-dusk fast, begins depending upon the sighting of the moon.

Believers abstain from consuming any food or liquid between fajr and maghrib prayers (at dawn and sunset) for the period of a whole month.

It is the holiest month in the calendar for Muslims as it is believed the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed during Ramadan.
