West Nile fever affected 6-yr-old dies in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A six-year-old boy, who had tested positive for vector-borne West Nile virus, died at the Kozhikode Medical College hospital on Monday.

The boy identified as Muhammed Shan, a native of AR Nagar in Kerala’s Malappuram district has been undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the past 10 days.

The virus is transmitted to humans through mosquito bite and is mostly reported in North America.

Affected people complain of fever, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, occasional skin rash and swollen lymph glands.
