CM visits martyr CRPF soldier Vasanthakumar’s family

Lakkidi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited Pulwama martyr CRPF soldier VV Vasanthakumar’s family at his residence at Lakkidi here.

The chief minister was accompanied by his wife Kamala Vijayan, ministers EP Jayarajan and Ramachandran Kadannappally while meeting the bereaved family members of the slain soldier.

Pinarayi reached Thrikkaipatta after landing at a ground in Meppadi in a helicopter and was also accompanied by MLAs CK Saseendran and OR Kelu.

During his visit, the chief minister offered Sheena who is the wife of Vasanthakumar a sub inspector’s post in the Kerala Police if she was interested.

Sheena, however, preferred not to take up the police job and instead requested Pinarayi to make permanent her temporary job as an assistant at the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University based at Lakkidi in Wayanad district.

Sheena preferred to stick to her current job, considering the age of her children and their well-being, but the chief minister asked her to reconsider her decision.

The cabinet meet summoned on Tuesday had decided to grant Rs 25 lakh as compensation to Vasanthakumar’s family.

The meeting also took a major decision to give permanent job to his wife who is currently working on a temporary basis at the Veterinary University.

CRPF soldier VV Vasanthakumar was killed in a terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.
