Pulwama attack: Kerala jawan Vasanthakumar’s body to be laid to rest today

 

 

Kalpetta: The body of CRPF Jawan V V Vasanthakumar (42), who died in a major terror attack in Pulwama of Jammu Kashmir the other day, will be brought at Kozhikode International Airport on Saturday afternoon around 2.55 pm.

“Mortal Remains will then be taken to Wayanad and homage will be paid at Govt LPS, Lakkidi, Wayanad. Funeral will be held at Mukkamkunnu in Thrikkaipeta village with state honour,” the district administration said on their Facebook page.

The news of Wayanad Vythiri native Vasanthakumar’s death in the terrorist attack was confirmed in the wee hours of Friday. He belonged to Battalion 82 of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force).

The body will be received with state honours at the airport and will be taken to his native place in Wayanad. It will be kept for the public to pay homage at Lakkidi Government LP School and will be laid to rest later at Thrikkaipatta crematorium with military honours.

Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam, state ministers T P Ramakrishnan and Ramachandran Kadannappalli will attend the last rites representing the central and state governments.

Vasanthakumar joined the CRPF in 2001 after completing pre-degree. He was deputed in Punjab until he was promoted as a hawildar last month. He came home on February 2 before he left for Kashmir to take up his new assignment. He had called up his mother two hours before the fatal blast.

Vasanthakumar is the only son of late Vasudevan and Santha. He is survived by his wife Sheena who works as a temporary staff at Pookkod Veterinary College, daughter Anamika, a class 3 student and son Amardeep, UKG student. Both children are studying at St. Claret HS School.
