Thiruvananthapuram: A show cause notice to Sabarimala tantri for closing the shrine and performing purification rituals soon after two women of menstruating age entered the temple has be issued by the State Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe.
Commission member S Ajayakumar informed the news through a Facebook post.
Since one of the women who entered the Sabarimala temple is a Dalit, the tantri’s act can be considered as a practice of untouchability. This is why he was sent a show cause notice, S Ajayakumar said in the post.
A notice was sent to the tantri asking him to appear before the Commission for the hearing on January 17. Since he did not appear, a show cause notice has been sent to him for further action.
No tantri is above the constitution or legal system in this country, he stated.
