Nuns who protested against rape accused Franco Mulakkal transferred

Kottayam: The Missionaries of Jesus has transferred five nuns who protested against Bishop Franco Mulakkal over allegations of sexual misconduct. The five nuns, have been staying in a convent in Kuravilangad in Kerala.

In March 2018, a transfer order was first issued but the protesting nuns defied the directive.

According to the Missionaries Of Jesus, Sister Anupama, who has been the leading figure in the protest have been asked to return to Punjab, Sister Ancitta has been shifted to Kannur, in Kerala, while Sister Alphy has been moved to Bihar and another nun Sister Josephine has been transferred to Jharkhand.

The fresh order comes with a warning that action will be taken against them if they do not comply with the March order.

The five protesting nuns have been transferred to five different locations.

In her complaint to the Kottayam Police in June, the victim nun had alleged that Bishop Mulakkal raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014 and later abused her on several occasions.
