Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday observed that hartal is an extremely serious issue. It is unbelievable that 97 hartals had happened in the state last year, the court said while considering various petitions filed against hartal.
Many orders have been issued by the High Court and Supreme Court against such anti-people strike measures. But none of it brought any resolution.
In the wake of this, the government should explain what measures it had taken against hartals, court said.
Can the government provide security during hartals? Is the government not seeing the public’s emotion towards hartals? What is government’s stance on issues including those raised by merchants? the court asked.
