High tension in Sabarimala; prohibitory order extended till Friday

Pamba: Taking into account the law and order situation in Sabarimala, the prohibitory order enforced in the place has been extended till Friday.

Section 144 CrPC has been clamped in four places since Thursday morning in Sabarimala including the Sannidhanam, Ilavunkal, Nilakkal and Pampa.

Even after the Section is imposed, which bans unlawful assembly of persons, a woman journalist was blocked on the way to the temple.

Suhasini Raj of New York Times was obstructed by the protesters opposing the entry of women of menstrual age to the temple at Marakkoottam. She was verbally abused and attacked.

Police had provided security to Suhasini and her foreign companion. She was first blocked at Pamba but she managed to get past them and reached Marakkoottam. A huge group of protesters arrived here and again blocked her way. They verbally abused and shouted slur at her.

Following this Suhasini retreated from the mission and descended the hills towards Pamba.

Meantime, protesters started abusing the police officers accompanying Suhasini.

Security has been beefed up in and around Sabarimala. Police is controlling all the devotee vehicles arriving here.
