Rescued Indian sailor Abhilash Tomy reaches Amsterdam island for medical check-up

Australia: Abhilash Tomy, the Indian sailor who was rescued from damaged sailboats in the remote southern Indian Ocean, was transferred ashore Amsterdam island on Tuesday.

Tomy will be subjected to full medical check-up here, said a Facebook post of Golden Globe Race.

However, it is reported that Indian Navy will take three days to take Abhilash to Mauritius from where he will be flown to India.

The nearest place to land a plane is Mauritius. But INS Satpura, the Indian vessel, will take three days sail at top speed to reach this destination from Amsterdam island.

The navy will then take Abhilash to Chennai by an aircraft from Mauritius. It is learned that weather would be a major challenge to take the sailor from the remote island.

In the meanwhile, according to reports, INS Satpura will arrive in Amsterdam on Friday.
