Nipah; Woman with Nipah symptoms dies in the isolation ward

Kozhikode: A woman who was in the isolation ward at government medical college hospital, Kozhikode, with symptoms similar to Nipah died on Saturday morning.

The deceased patient has been identified as Roja (39) hailing from Thillankery,Thalassery, in Kannur district.

However, the test results from Roja’s biosamples is yet to arrive and confirm the presence of Nipah virus (NiV)

In total, 17 persons died in the state due to NiV infection till Friday.

17 persons who had close contact with Nipah virus affected patients are under observation. 1945 persons are in the contact list.

Meanwhile, 6 more persons were admitted to Kozhikode Medical College on Friday suspecting NiV infection.
