Controversial land deal; No case to be registered against Alencherry

Kochi: The Kerala High Court division bench has revoked a single-bench order asking for a case to be registered against Cardinal Mar George Alencherry over the controversial land deal of the Ernakulam-Angamally diocese of the Syro Malabar Church.

It passed the order on Tuesday while considering an appeal filed by the Cardinal and others against the order of the single bench of the Kerala High Court.

The division bench comprised justices Antony Dominic and Sheshadri Naidu.

Earlier, the single bench had ordered to book Cardinal Alencherry, senior archdiocesan functionaries Father Joshy Puthuva and Father Sebastian Vadakkumpadan and a parishioner Saju Varghese saying there was prima facie evidence of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and misappropriation of money in the deal.
