Thiruvananthapuram: The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications have issued a circular stating that SIM cards bought without Aadhaar and kept unused for long time should be cancelled. It also said that if a person owns more than nine SIM cards, those will also become cancelled soon.
Meanwhile it is learned that those connections taken using Aadhaar won’t be disconnected even if not in use.
This move comes in the wake to check the misuse of SIM cards by anti-socials and issuing of unlimited SIM cards by the service providers.
Now on, the companies have to ensure the authenticity of the identity cards and the number of SIM cards issued to the same ID card.
According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), there are ninety four crore SIM card connections in the country out of which 25 to 30 percent are not in use.
