Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi’s ‘About Elly’ to be screened at Manaveeyam tomorrow

about-elly-posterThiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA), in association with the Manaveeyam Theruvorakootam Collective, will screen the Iranian psychological drama ‘About Elly’ directed by Oscar winning director Asghar Farhadi at Manaveeyam Veedhi on Saturday (December 5) at 7 pm.

‘About Elly’ is the fourth directorial venture of Asghar Farhadi, before he won the Oscar for best foreign language movie ‘A Seperation’.

The movie revolves around a group of middle class Iranian friends who take a trip to Caspian Sea, which turns tragic. The course of the trip takes a mysterious cut after Elly’s disappearance on their stay at a deserted sea front villa. The blame game and investigation among the friends related to Elly’s strange vanishing makes the crux of the movie.

Released on the year 2009, ‘About Elly’ has won Farhadi the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for 10 awards at the 27th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran where Farhadi won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Director. ‘About Elly’ was Iran’s official submission for competition in the Foreign Film section at the 82nd Academy Awards.
