Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) initiative, Drish Kerala, has been awarded this year’s Indiastar Awards for their Modified Atmosphere Pack. The packaging ensures hygiene and extends the shelf life of dry fish, which is sold in retail stores under the Drish Kerala brand.
KSCADC Managing Director Dr K Ampady received the award at a function at Mumbai’s Hotel Renaissance. The product, which has been in retail for less than a year, impressed jury members, consisting of representatives from government bodies, consumer forums and the packaging industry, for its hygiene and quality.
“The panel was also very impressed with Drish Kerala’s mission in buying fish directly from fishermen, eliminating middlemen completely and making sure that the fishermen gets the best price and creates employment for women,” said Dr Ampady.
He added that the award “is a boost to the KSCADC vision of taking a product like dry fish to the organized retail sector”. “It is also an endorsement of our ambition of taking the Drish brand to the overseas market,” he said.
This award has ensured Drish Kerala’s entry for the Worldstar Awards conducted by World Packaging Organization.
