Thiruvananthapuram: A special CBI court here on Tuesday has announced the verdict in the high-profile Paul Muthoot George murder case on Tuesday. The court sentenced first 9 convicts to life term in prison and accused 10 to 13 were given 3 years of rigorous imprisonment in the sensational murder case.
Fourteenth accused Aneesh was acquitted the court for want of evidence. Judge R Raghu has found Jayachandran, Chengannassery Quotation gangleader Kari Sathish, Sathar, Akash Sasidharan, Satishkumar, Rajivkumar, Shino Paul, Faisal, Abhi, Riyas, Siddhique, Ismail and Zulfiquer, Sabeer guilty of murder.
The court found that accused 1 to 9 persons was directly involved in the killing while four were guilty of destroying evidence. All were booked for murder charges, conspiracy and for forming a group to conspire the murder.
Nineteen persons have been named in the accused list, including goonda leader Kari Sathish.
Paul Muthoot George was murdered on August 22, 2009. In the first chargesheet prepared by the Kerala police, 25 persons were included as accused. But following the HC directive on January 29, 2010, when the CBI took charge, as many as 14 persons were named in the accused list and a chargesheet prepared. In the midst of detailed interrogation, 5 more were also included in the accused list.
15 persons who figured in the accused list were made approvers by the CBI. The probe team had submitted a list of 241 witnesses and 155 documents relating to the case.
