Kochi: The Education Department has said that the printing of textbooks has been completed in the state and their distribution will be completed by Tuesday (today). However, in certain districts, more books are needed.
About 20,000 books are required to complete the distribution in Alappuzha and Thrissur districts and it is expected to reach the districts today. The official clarification was that the textbooks have reached the respective district headquarters and instructions have been given to complete the distribution today.
The distribution of textbooks could not take place in districts where schools were closed due to heavy rain. The distribution in these districts will be done today. The text books were supplied as per the order received from each school. Officials from aided schools have to collect the text books for distribution.
The printing of textbooks was completed in Kerala Books and Publication Society (KBPS) centre, Kakkand and at the Solar Printers, Thiruvananthapuram. Ernakulam collector and managing director of KBPS, M G Rajamanikayam, said that the work to transport these books to depots was over by midnight on Monday.
The textbooks for distribution in Kochi district will be taken out from KBPS centre on Tuesday. It was not done on Monday since it was local delivery. The management and employees of KBPS are thrilled that they were able to meet the deadline fixed by the State Government. The printing of textbooks was completed on July 17 and binding was over the very next day.
KBPS was entrusted with the task to print 43 lakh textbooks in the second phase. Later, a private firm in Thiruvananthapuram was commissioned to print 10 lakh textbooks. The collector made daily review of the printing and gave instructions to correct the mistakes.
The government was able to complete the printing and distribution of books in a time-bound manner. The printing of 10 lakh textbooks was done in a similar manner at the Solar Printers.
