Man sets himself on fire at Boby Chemmanur’s jewellery in Tirur

11349919_885626404834967_1243087180_nTirur: A customer reportedly set himself ablaze at one of Boby Chemmanur’s Jewellery in Tirur, Malappuram by 1.30 on Saturday noon.

According to the police, Ismayil (45), a Vattathani resident had purchased ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh in debt from the jewellery for his daughter’s marriage and had to remit a balance amount of about 3.5 lakh rupees. To this he along with an agent who helped him to acquire the loan have had held talks in the branch manager’s office today and suddenly Ismayil poured petrol over him and set himself on fire.

“A case in this regard has not yet been registered as the statements are being recorded now. His condition is severe and has been taken to Tirur district hospital and from there to the Kozhikode Medical College,” told Tirur Sub Inspector Vishwanathan to Evartha.

Mean while reports also speculate that Ismayil was threatened by the jewellery agents to remit the pending amount and he had took this drastic step in conflict to this.

It is also to be noted that it was not more than a while when opposition leader V S Achuthanandan had alleged fraudulence of Rs 2000 crore against Boby Chemmanur, the tycoon of Chemmanur group.
