CISF soldier killed in firing at Karipur airport

Calicut Airport at NightKozhikode: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel has reportedly died here, Wednesday night in a shocking incident of firing at Karipur airport. Two others were also injured in a clash with the fire force employees and the CISF.

The deceased officer is known to be S S Yadav, a CISF soldier who died after he was seriously injured in the shooting, sources said.

The firing is said to have occurred during an argument over transit pass and security check on the fire force personnel by the CISF soldiers. An argument broke out when CISF soldiers stopped fire force personnel on duty and it was soon escalated into a clash.

The situation got out of control when officials of airport authority arrived at the site.

Due to the tense situation, two flights are yet to be allowed to land on the runway and are flying over the airport. Unconfirmed reports said that they have been sent to Kochi airport.

The shooting took place at a high security zone of the airport where containers are being dealt with.

The situation is still tense and local police have rushed to the airport.

Mean while the Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala spoke to a news channel and said that more policemen have been deployed at the airport.

The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital and one of them, an airport authority employee namely Sunny Thomas, is in a serious condition.
