Sources speculate that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will soon announce that he will leave the club at the end of this season. Steven, 34, is likely to go public with his plans on Friday as he looks forward to end an Anfield first-team career stretching back to 1998. Multiple English newspapers reported the news of Gerrard’s imminent announcement earlier Thursday night.
With his current Reds deal set to expire this summer, Gerrard became free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club on Thursday. At present Gerrard, who ruled out retirement earlier this season, has reportedly attracted interest from MLS clubs in the United States, although he has yet to decide where he will play next.
The midfielder is on the short list of the MLS champion LA Galaxy’s potential targets, a source confirmed to ESPN FC’s Jeff Carlisle.
