The court gave this direction while hearing a public interest litigation seeking relocation of liquor outlets along the highways considering the troubles faced by the public.
A division bench also ordered the government to submit a report in this regard within two weeks after taking initiatives for implementation of the same.
The HC wanted relocation of 169 liquor outlets. ‘The rush seen in front of the outlets often affects smooth vehicular movement and also causes accidents. Given, this, such outlets should be shifted to less-crowded areas,’ it noted.
After the government closing down sub-standard bars, tipplers are mainly resorting to Bevco outlets. Consequently, large crowds on the premises of these outlets are a common sight nowadays which also often results in traffic jams.
