Maharashtra appeal to farmers as 22 farmers commits suicide in 3 weeks

farmer_suicide_20120326The government of Maharashtra today appealed to farmers “not to take emotional steps” and wait for relief measures as it has been reported that 22 farmers commit suicides in three weeks driven by massive crop failure.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said his government was aware of the scale of destruction across the state, and assured full support to farmers devastated by crop damage.
Mr Chavan also said he had spoken to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Election Commission, amid questions about whether a relief package just ahead of the national election would be considered a violation of the code of conduct.
