New Delhi, March 6: According the Financial Express report, there is no higher education institute from the country found place among top 200 reputed universities of the world in a list based on a survey of senior academics across the globe. Even India’s well-known IITs and the Indian Institute of Science slid below 200 mark in the rankings which is described as a definitive list of the world’s 100 most prestigious universities. Most of the institutions featured in World Reputation Rankings 2014, released by the UK-based Times Higher Education on Friday, were American and British. It also had a few universities from Asian countries like China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Phil Baty, the editor of Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, has pointed out that, “India’s most prestigious institution, based on the results of our expert global opinion poll, is the Indian Institute of Science, but it sits roughly around the 200th position and fell further since last year. IITs – Bombay, Delhi and Kanpur – are also top of India’s ranking, but they have slipped in the global list”. India’s absence from the list could affect its ability to attract globally reputed faculty, said Baty.
