Army jawan kills himself before killing five of his colleagues

Indian-army-330x200Kashmir: Siphoy Ramber Singh, an Army soldier killed five of his colleagues and injured another one before killing himself inside the Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles camp in the Sheikh Mohallah area of Safapora in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The incident happened at 1:45 am in the army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles camp which is part of the deployment in Central Kashmir.
Police sources said Siphoy Ramber Singh left his barrack in the wee hours and killed five colleagues and injured one. After the incident, the soldier shot and killed himself. According to sources, the soldier, who was posted on sentry duty at the camp, entered one of the barracks at around 2.00 AM and opened indiscriminate firing on his sleeping colleagues. They said five soldiers were killed and another injured in the firing before the jawan went on to shoot himself. NN Joshi, the Ministry of Defence spokesperson based in Srinagar, told to the media, “On the night of 26 February one soldier run amok inside the camp, fired randomly at his colleagues, and killed five fellow soldiers before killing himself. We have ordered an inquiry into the incident.” A policemen officer stationed in Safapora told, that the army men were completely under shock and were reluctant to even go and see the dead bodies before the police arrived. The post-mortem of the six men is to be carried out in the sub district hospital of Sumbal Safapora. There is still no confirmation on the actual cause of what led the man to fire at his colleagues. An FIR, 08/2014, has been lodged in police station Safapora. Those killed were identified as Siphoy Rahul Mitra, Janki Rajput, Amit Kumar, Surender Singh and M D Ansari. Naik Kaka Singh was injured.
